WATCH: Darren Till looks incredible on the pads as he returns to All Stars MMA before Khamzat Chimaev’s UFC 279 Clash
Chimaev and Till have been training together for the past 6 months
It’s been a rough few months for the Gorilla, Darren Till. Till didn’t get the opportunity to perform in front of his home crowd when the UFC first returned to London back in March. The Scouser was undeniably excited to have that opportunity when the UFC returned to London the past week but only a month before the fight, he had to pull out due to injury.
He was replaced by Chris ‘The Action Man’ Curtis against Jack Hermansson with Till initially planning to work on the corner of Curtis. However, the plans were later scrapped considering it may be disrespectful to Jack, who was prepared to fight Till all along. That decision probably benefited Till, as had he been cageside he’d have to see first hand as Curtis was beaten up by a range-heavy striking performance by the Swede that arguably was designed to neutralize the scouser.
Till is a far cry from his initial years in the UFC where he was hailed as an uncrowned champion up until he faced Tyron Woodley for the belt. Since then he’s moved up a division and is 1-4 in his last 5 fights, 3 of which saw him get finished. At 29 however, it would be unfair to write off Till just yet hence it was a relief to see Till back in camp
Darren Till returns to Sweden to train with Khazmat Chimaev reuniting the Smesh Bros
The reason many were excited for Till to return this time around was the intrigue surrounding the training with Khamzat Chimaev and his gym, All Stars MMA. Till and Chimaev struck up a friendship last year and have become MMA’s Bill and Ted going around the streets of Vegas and calling out every fighter on the way.
Today a new clip showed Till back at the All Stars Gym and working hard already. The clip shows Till working the pad with HEAVY hooks, first on his lead leg and then on his back. Though it’s not the fluid striking we’ve all come to expect from Till, the workout seems to be excruciatingly hard to keep up with.
This is a trademark of the All Stars Gym since Chimaev has entered the mainstream as the Chechen himself is rumored to be training upwards of 6 hours a day. In the video, as Till works the pads, the Wolf can be seen working on his ground and pound in the background.
Till doesn’t have any fights booked currently so it can be assumed that he is back there to help Chimaev train for the biggest fight of his career, (by name value) against Nate Diaz. Chimaev has fully accepted the role of The UFC’s henchman and promises to leave Diaz 6 feet under before he walks out of the organization.
