Davey Grant has been 2-2 in his last 4 but none of them, win or lose were nothing short of memorable. The now 14-6 Englishmen, has managed to rack up 4 straight performance bonuses and with every progressing fight it seems he has made and obligation to gain the bonus. At UFC Vegas 54, Grant put on a similarly memorable performance against Luis Smolka that ended with punches connected straight to the face of a downed Smolka.
The fight that was scheduled for 3 rounds, saw Grant assert his aggressiveness in the first, landing heavy shots on Smolka who refused to budge. Using his leg-kicks Grant was able to keep the American at a safe distance.
Luis Smolka came back up in the second mixing it up with elbows and clinches on a Davey Grant who was surely a little tired after the output in R1. Towards the end of the round Grant was able to even up on the strikes.
Davey Grant gains a brutal last round KO on the ground
Round 3 saw a replenished Grant go back to using his leg kicks one of which caused significant damage to Smolka’s lead leg. In a desperate attempt to get a break, Smolka who was clearly fatigued shot a hail-mary takedown, that Grant saw coming from a mile away. Sprawling away comfortably, Grant landed heavy shots from the ground onto Smolka’s face, who tried to get into a submission exchange similar to Round 2.
Grant started raining punches on Smolka who wound up into a shell on the ground, with the third one connecting hard and putting him out.
Grant gained the finish at the 40-second mark of the final round and almost certainly bagged himself a performance bonus-worthy finish. Grant was able to get out of his 2 fight losing skid after he faced rising prospect and new contender Adrian Yanez and Chito Vera in 2021
