“I am gonna SHOW YOU the path,” despite bad blood, Daniel Cormier aims to GUIDE Jorge Masvidal to a title shot

Jorge Masvidal- Daniel Cormier

Even though Daniel Cormier and Jorge Masvidal had their Twitter back and forth, Cormier still believes in Masvidal that he can apply a specific approach to get a third title shot in his UFC career. Cormier is a former UFC lightheavyweight and heavyweight champion with wins over the likes of Volkan Oezdemir, Anthony Johnson, Stipe Miocic, Alexander Gustafsson, Josh Barnett, Frank Mir, Antonio Silva, Roy Nelson and many more.

Masvidal is a longtime MMA fighter who has been fighting for close to 2 decades. Masvidal has fought in more than 50 professional fights with wins over the likes of Darren Till, Yves Edwards, Nate Diaz, Ben Askren, Donald Cerrone, James Krause, James Ellenberger, Ross Pearson and many more. Today, Masvidal is one of the highest paid athletes in the current roster of the UFC. Masvidal is also the co-owner of Gamebred FC and Ikon Fighting Championships.

Daniel Cormier believes Jorge Masvidal’s win against Gilbert Burns needs to happen as soon as possible

Jorge Masvidal x Gilbert Burns
Burns has proposed a November date to face Masvidal

Not so long ago, Cormier reacted to Masvidal approaching for a third title shot in his UFC career despite being on a 3-fight skid. The reason was that Masvidal already had a bad blood with the newly crowned UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards and therefore wanted to use that story to his advantage. Cormier was not a fan of Masvidal’s approach and therefore criticized the approach openly in return for which Masvidal initiated a Twitter back and forth against Cormier.

Now in his latest video on his Youtube channel, Cormier talks about what Masvidal can do to get a title shot. Cormier also cleared that he is not a Masvidal hater but cannot deny the factual information of Masvidal’s recent fight record and how the Masvidal’s fight against Edwards cannot be possible to make right now irrespective of Masvidal’s popularity.

“I like Jorge, I respect Jorge, so I am not here to sling mud at him,” says Cormier. “But what I’m going to do is, I am going to give him a bit of a path to the title shot, the one that he so desperately desires… so how does Masvidal get to a title fight? One, you gotta fight Gilbert Burns right now, you got to accept that fight… but you also gotta do one more thing, you got to fight him [& win] before the Usman-Edwards fight is announced, the trilogy…” concludes Cormier.

What do you make of Cormier’s advice for Masvidal in order to get a title shot? Do you think Masvidal’s fight against Edwards will happen before Edwards fighting preceding UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in a title match? Who do you think would win if Masvidal fights Usman somehow? Where do you put Masivdal amongst the most exciting fighters of all time? Where do you put Cormier amongst the greatest heavyweight fighters of all time?
