Colby Covington suffered a lopsided loss to Leon Edwards at UFC 296. This was despite promising to beat the Brit impressively to claim the welterweight gold. In the build-up to the title bout, “Choas” had defamed the 22-3 titleholder’s deceased father. Accordingly, a skirmish had broken out between him and “Rocky”, at the Media Day pre-fight presser. The incident had even incurred much disgust from top honcho Dana White, who slammed the fighter in a private conversation later on.

Now, speaking on the JRE MMA Show#152 with Sean Brady, Joe Rogan has talked about the same. UFC’s color commentator, and the host of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience‘, Rogan dives into a lot of MMA caricatures. This accordingly includes post-fight scenarios and reactions. Speaking on Covington’s trash-talk amounting to nothing, he said:

Colby talked so much sh*t...it was fu**ed up. That’s Colby. He’s the master at getting under people’s skin but I think in that fight it backfired. He didn’t look good...

Instead of letting Covington’s insults get under his skin, Edwards came out dominant, never letting the former NCAA All-American wrestler get anything going. Albeit it being a slow square-off he knew what he was doing. Rocky later shared his emotional journey, addressing the use of his father’s death in pre-fight banter, and emphasizing the essence of sportsmanship.

Rogan concurrently also added that he was “impressed with Leon“. His sharpness and technical acumen on his feet is what the commentator attributes to his win. The only criticism he had is that Edwards kept engaging in a grapple with Covington instead of opting for a finish.

Colby Covington’s top disses and swipes at peers in 2023

You do not get called “Chaos” for blatant reasons. And Colby Covington goes through the grind every day to prove that. The 17-4 welterweight out of MMA Masters recently lost a title match at UFC 296.

In the build-up, the fighter had openly jibed at rival Leon Edwards’ deceased father. Although he later proclaimed on “playing a part“, he did double down on said part yet again, even after the loss. Consequently, this isn’t his only case of slamming a peer.

Colby’s insults were riped by many, including Jon Jones, Jorge Masvidal, Michael Chandler and even Paddy Pimblett. Speaking to Patrick Bet-David and co-hosts Adam Sosnick, and Vincent Oshana on the PBD Podcast Episode 343, he dissed at “The Baddy” on never amounting to a “a top-30 fighter“.

On the same podcast, where he doubled down on Edwards, and dissed Chandler and Pimblett, he also reverted back to Masvidal. He and Masvidal have an age-old rivalry, ranging back from UFC 272. Recently, he dissed the rival for being “a dead-beat dad“.

Even in the lead-up to UFC 296, Covington had also taken a jab at Ian Machado Garry and his wife, British sports presenter Layla Anna-Lee. Along with this, the fighter has often gone up against Chandler, Jones, Sean Strickland and others in his verbal triage.
