Alex Pereira is set to headline the main event for UFC 295 against a very formidable opponent, Jiri Prochazka. This bout will determine the undisputed UFC light heavyweight champion. Alex Pereira expressed his support for fellow fighter Dillon Danis during a pre-fight press conference.
Pereira disclosed during a news conference before the event that he had trained with Danis in preparation for the latter’s fight against Logan Paul. Pereira praised Danis’ talent and determination, stating that he had observed Danis’ abilities personally during their MMA training sessions. This is what he had to say:
First, we did an MMA session and I could see that he’s a very talented kid. We had two night sessions. He’s a great guy and the fact that he’s actually in negotiations with the UFC, or trying to get in, I think is awesome and i’m very pumped and I’m rooting for him.Alex Pereira in a Pre-fight Press Conference
Notably, Dillon Danis has vied for a deal with the UFC after showing his abilities in Bellator MMA and competing in a high-profile match against Logan Paul under the Misfits Boxing banner. Despite his hiatus from MMA since his victory in 2019, Danis’ marketability and appeal to sell fights have remained and even grown. This makes him an attractive potential for the UFC.
Alex Pereira’s backing for Danis adds to the excitement surrounding the latter’s possible UFC debut. The Brazilian fighter’s endorsement might sway UFC decision-makers in favor of Danis’ potential as a competitive force in the cage.
Alex Pereira is unsure of if Israel Adesanya will stay off the octagon for much longer
Former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has revealed his intention to go on hiatus from MMA combat for an indefinite time. However, his longstanding opponent, Alex Pereira, remained skeptical about Adesanya’s recovery schedule. In a press appearance in Saudi Arabia, Adesanya claimed that fans should not expect to see him return until 2027.
Pereira, who stepped up to the light heavyweight division, will face Jiri Prochazka for the vacant UFC light heavyweight championship. Despite Adesanya’s assertion, Pereira questioned the credibility of his rival’s claims. He felt Adesanya would not be able to avoid the octagon for as long as he claimed. This is what Poatan had to say:
I don’t think that’s true, he won’t stay out that long. And that’s not good for him, to not fight for that long. He’ll give other interviews soon and get motivated again. I think he needs a bit more motivation. If he finds something that motivates him, I think he comes back quickly. When he finds that motivation, he comes back sooner than that.Alex Pereira in a Pre-fight Press Conference
Pereira’s skepticism about Israel Adesanya’s “vacation” concerns the former champion’s objectives. While Adesanya’s plans remain unknown, Pereira’s reservations add a fascinating layer to the two fighters’ ongoing rivalry.
