Khabib Nurmagomedov is possibly the greatest fighter to grace the UFC. The undefeated fighter recently came on the PBD podcast. The host Patrick Bet-David, had an array of interesting questions to ask the fighter. One such question involved the Power Slap. Khabib gave his thoughts about it.
Power Slap is the latest entertainment venture of Dana White. The sport requires opponents to slap for a knockout. Nurmagomedov said, “In our mentality, slap is not good, it is better to punch face. Never slap a man”, indicating that a slap is a disrespectful gesture. The sport has been openly criticized by numerous others, too. White, disregarding his critics, still promotes the sport. He claims immense profits and audience views from this venture.
Nurmagomedov and White have always enjoyed a good and professional relationship. The champ’s comments on Power Slap came from his take on morals and respect. Many other active fighters have also declared their dislike. Sean O’Malley, the current bantamweight champ, expressed his disapproval of the sport.
Despite getting callouts from time to time, Nurmagomedov has permanently left MMA. He has even stopped coaching and acting as a cornerman. As the Eagle no longer flies, White still finds other businesses to profit from.
Khabib Nurmagomedov before The Notorious Conor McGregor
Khabib Nurmagomedov is undoubtedly the most dominant champion the UFC has ever seen. His wrestling superiority can be credited for that. Keeping aside his unmatched skills, Nurmagomedov was never a skilled entertainer. At least not as good as Conor McGregor. The Irishman already had the double champ status before facing Nurmagomedov. McGregor was the star that everyone wanted to fight.
As expected, McGregor and Nurmagomedov crossed paths in an extremely aggressive manner. Even before the fight, the tension between the two had been exciting the crowd. Nurmagomedov showcased absolute domination and completely humbled the former champ. It was after the fight when a bigger altercation broke out between Nurmagomedov and McGregor’s team. The fight went on to become the biggest pay-per-view event in UFC history.
After McGregor, Nurmagomedov defended his title against Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje too. But none could match the fame that the Notorious brought.
