“He just wants to be famous,” Dominick Cruz dismisses Henry Cejudo’s return in terms of serious title contention

Dominick Cruz- Henry Cejudo

Dominick Cruz had his fair share of rivalries with many people but bad blood with Henry Cejudo is the one he won’t settle with. Cruz, the first and former UFC Bantamweight champion, is currently on a 2- fight winning streak and was last seen winning a unanimous decision against Pedro Munhoz at UFC 269. Cruz is now heading forward to fight Marlon Vera next month.

Cruz and combat sports legend Henry Cejudo fought each other back in April 2020, when Cejudo became the first UFC fighter to defeat Cruz in a knockout fashion. However, Cruz protested the stoppage of the fight immediately as he said he was receiving the unanswered shots from Cejudo but he was standing up on his way from the ground to get back in a better position of fighting. Cejudo then decided to hang up his gloves, retiring then as a two-division champ of the UFC.

In an interview with Dave Schmulenson aka The Schmo, Cruz elaborated about his upcoming fight against Marlon Vera, his response to Frankie Esgar’s callout, his reaction to Nate Diaz vs Khamzat Chimaev’s fight announcement and much more. In the midst of all, Cruz also talked about his former rival Henry Cejudo’s potential return to the octagon.

“When we’re talking about Henry, he’s retired and he’s been retired and that guy’s just looking to, again he’s a guy who wants to be famous. You know he sat out, got fat and then just relaxed so now he wants to come back and get a big fight,” says Cruz.

What do you make of Cruz’s reaction to Cejudo’s return? Do you feel the same way as Cruz? Some time ago it was official that Cejudo has entered the USADA pool and therefore looking to return to the octagon to eventually capture the third belt in his legacy which is that of the featherweight division. Do you think Cejudo, the Olympic champion, can defeat the current featherweight champion to become the first 3-division UFC champion?
