Dominick Reyes believes he was robbed against Jon Jones
Dominick Reyes today cannot get over the fact that the judges awarded the fight against Jon Jones to the champion. Reyes is still known for almost beating Jones and putting up a close fight against the former light heavyweight champion.
Dominick Reyes and Jon Jones went head to head at the main event of UFC 247. To everyone’s surprise, the fight went closer than most expected. The fight was so close that there could be a separate argument that Dominick might have beat the greatest light heavyweight of all time. Jones won the fight via decision and defended his title. Reyes was very disappointed right after the winner was announced because he strongly believed he defeated Jon “Bones” Jones.
In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting, Reyes spoke about the fight and how he thinks about that fight even today. Since that loss to Jones, Reyes has gone on to lose twice against two champions. He fought against Jan Blachowicz for the vacant title and then faced the exciting Jiri Prochazka last year to fall victim to Jiri’s deadly finish.

“It could all be different. It could all be different now,” said Reyes talking to MMA Fighting about his career trajectory since the loss to Jones. “I did win the fight with Jon, but if I did get the nod, or however you want to say it, and I’m the champ, who knows? Maybe I don’t fight Jan, maybe I fight someone else. It all could be so different.”
Dominick is currently on a three-fight skid and has faced to devastating knockout defeats which put the two-time title contender to sleep in the octagon. “I should be in a completely different situation right now. It is what it is. I have made my decision, I’ve done what I’ve done and I’m here now, and luckily, still alive,” continued Reyes in the interview.
Reyes believes he still has a shot at the title and could eventually become the champion. Reyes now has a record of 12-3-0 in his MMA career and all his defeats have come inside the UFC octagon. The very talented light heavyweight is now looking to get back into the octagon since his loss to Prochazka, who is the current light heavyweight champion.
