“Eating me up”- Dominick Reyes states the loss against Jon Jones as a factor for his recent defeats

Jon Jones won a unanimous decision over Dominick Reyes. In the first two rounds, the challenger came out strong, definitely posing a threat to Jones and landed solid strikes. Reyes appeared to score a knockdown in round one after getting Jones with a straight left, but given that the shot landed on Jones’s body, it could have been a slip.
The championship rounds are simpler to score, and this is not due to any inherent favouritism toward Jones, the current champion. Jones is eventually able to take Reyes down in the final two frames, which may have influenced the judges’ decision, despite the fact that he wasn’t able to launch any serious offence off of the takedowns and Reyes recovered swiftly. Reyes, on the other hand, does not appear to be landing as regularly as he did early in the fight, and Jones has cause to believe he has won another decision victory.

UFC Light Heavyweight Dominick Reyes called in to talk with Ariel Helwani about his future and how he’s been on The MMA Hour on June 13, 2022. Dominick, who hasn’t competed since losing to the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jiri Prochazka in May of 2021, revealed when he plans to return to the octagon during the chat.
He stated, “Then the pandemic started and I don’t know what he started doing at home and started feeling a different kind of way. All of the sudden it was, ‘No, I’m going to Heavyweight, screw that, there’s too much risk, I don’t get paid enough to fight him. I’m not going to fight him without double, you have to pay me double to fight that guy again.’ It was like, what, I was getting contender money, bro, screw you, I should be getting pay-per-views the next fight. It was weird how it all happened, he was down, everything was good, Dana [White] said we were going to do it … then, nope.”
He also stated that the reason he lost against the former champion in his last title fight was that he mentally didn’t move on from the Jones fight. It was still “Eating him up” and it was a “Folk in the Road” for him
Unfortunately for Reyes, after back-to-back brutal knockout losses to former and current champions Jan Blachowicz and Jiri Prochazka, he’s still looking for a positive result following the Jones fight. Hopefully, in the near future, he is able to carry forward his career and leave the past in the past.
