“I don’t love it anymore” Donald Cerrone retires after a heartbreaking submission loss to Jim Miller at UFC 276
Cerrone a 50+ fight veteran retired at UFC 276
Donald Cerrone and Jim Miller are the very definition of the word endurance. The two have been in the UFC and active since forever and competed today for the title of most wins by any athlete with both tied at 23.
At UFC 276, after much delays and cancellations Cerrone finally got to compete when he accepted to step in at a short notice to replace Bobby Green. Cerrone was previously scheduled to face fellow veteran Joe Lauzon, a bout that fell apart thrice.
Cerrone has been on a 5 fight losing streak ever since his last win against Al Iaquinta back in 2019. Hence a lot of calls for his retirement have been made by fans and fighters alike. However cowboy was insistent that he wanted to go out on his own terms and possibly with a win, wanting his sons to see him be victorious once, now that they’re old enough to understand what their father does.
The fight between Miller and Cerrone lasted all but two rounds. While Cerrone was crisp as usual on his feet, the same cannot be said about him once the fight moved to the ground. The first round saw Cerrone use his reach to keep Miller out of range and land his Muay Thai kicks, however one grappling exchange later, Cerrone was on the ground trying avoid Miller’s ground and pound and submission attempts.

The second round saw more of the same except Miller was committed to his submissions this time. At the 1 minute mark of the 2nd round, Miller took down Cerrone to secure a guillotine choke and secured the victory. As Joe Rogan walked in to interview Miller, he pointed out Cerrone who was removing his gloves asking Joe to talk to him first.

After this Joe said, “Donald, it’s been a special special career my friend” asking Donald to express what was going on through his mind at the end of the road. “I Just, Thank you Las Vegas, I’m glad my boys got to be here” said Cerrone taking in the moment.
After brief pause Cerrone said, “I don’t love it anymore Joe, it’s hard for me to get up and train, this is the longest camp I have had in a long time. ” The Colorado native was obviously exhausted from two straight weight cuts in two straight months. “I don’t love it anymore, I’m going to be a movie star baby” said Cerrone to thunderous applause from the crowd.
