Donald Trump‘s attendance at UFC 296 in Las Vegas’s T-Mobile Arena was widely an expected affair. He has been a long-running acquaintance of welterweight title contender Colby Covington, who lost the matchup. Going up against champion Leon Edwards, Covington had hyped up the build-up with extensive promises of a title win. He had even asked CEO Dana White for a walkout along with the Republican nominee Trump, and to honor him with the belt on winning.
Come the actual headliner at UFC 296, the 169lber suffered a skid against the now 22-3 Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards. The overall performance of “Chaos” bore the mark of being sluggish, which caught a lot of subsequent flack. His post-fight Octagon interview, after the unanimous decision skid, saw Trump leaving early along with his escorts and entourages. A prime reaction read – “All that s*cking up to Trump, just for him to leave.”
In the aftermath of the matchup, commentator Joe Rogan interviewed Covington. The fighter had previously nudged in dedicating his title contention to the MAGA movement and the generic elements of the country like the troops and law enforcement. Speaking on a similar notion, the fighter garnered a lot of booing, in light of his performance.
Additionally, the 45th Ex-President Trump was also seen hurling away, guided by his security escorts. Moments before he was also visibly cringing during Covington’s speech after the loss, mentioning him. Fans of the community have not shied away from cueing in his admiration for Trump in vain, in retrospect.
Fans react to Donald Trump’s early departure after Colby Covington loss
Colby Covington incurred a title skid against still reigning welterweight champion Leon Edwards at UFC 296. With a unanimous decision(49-46, 49-46, 49-46), “Chaos” lost in a coy fashion. Covington was dominated over for most of the matchup. With all three judges scoring in favor of Edwards, the fight was all but settled. However, in a classic nonchalant mannerism, “Chaos” remained grinning and unbothered about the discourse of the event. So much so, that close friend and acquaintance Donald Trump took an early exit from the arena. Trump’s 2020 loss has also been muddled into the mix.
Trump is vibrantly famed for not associating with losses; or losers for that matter. To this day he has remained sternly set against his loss in the 2020 US Presidential Election, and consequent or preceding stints of indictment. Naturally, he had to leave early because of security concerns. But check out how fans have correspondingly reacted:
Some backlashes have been lighthearted, joking that he “had to beat traffic“. Others have however vigorously trolled the fighter for defaming himself with a below-sub-par performance, in front of the ex-POTUS.
