Colby Covington doesn’t shy away from openly supporting Donald Trump. And that didn’t go unnoticed. Donald Trump thanked Covington for his relentless and open support and complimented him on his win at UFC Fight Night 178.

Colby Covington won that fight by TKO. Covington put down Woodley in the fifth round and mentioned Donald Trump in his octagon interview. He later received a call from the former President who congratulated him on his victory. Trump gave him a call on ESPN+ and thanked him for his continuous support and also revealed that he is a fan of the fighter.

“I’m proud of you, man,” Trump said. He complimented Covington for his grit and toughness and expressed his appreciation for the support. Trump said he is a fan and wants Covington to retain the championship. “You’re tough, you have the right spirits. So now go win the next one, and keep it for a long time.”

Covington must have really appreciated that call from the now-former President as he later said he could go up against anybody now. “I appreciated the shout-out tonight too. I’m your fan, you’re my fan. Two of a kind, two of a kind,” Donald Trump said.

‘Chaos’ later said that he was enthralled after meeting the former President. He also said he would keep his request and bring a championship to him if Donald Trump won the 2020 US Presidential Election. But unfortunately for Covington, Donald Trump lost the election to Joe Biden. But now that Donald Trump is running for re-election in the 2024 US Presidential Elections while Covington is facing off against Leon Edwards for a title shot, maybe the stars will align this time and fans will get to see Covington fulfill his promise.

Leon Edwards is the reigning UFC Welterweight champion and Colby Covington is coming for his title. Covington was present as the backup fighter for the Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards trilogy fight. Although it isn’t officially declared, the UFC may schedule a fight between Leon and Colby in July this year.

Covington has not built enough wins after his last title shot, having fought only once since 2021, unlike some of the other fighters in the division. Many fighters were not happy with the decision and viewed it as a flavorful act on behalf of Dana White.

If the reports are true, Colby and Leon will clash in the octagon later this year in England. Fans are highly anticipating the fight and many fighters like Belal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns are already aiming for a title shot ahead of the fight.
