UFC 297 takes place at the Scotiabank Arena. The main card airs on pay-per-view after prelims on ESPNews and early action on ESPN+. The headlining main event sees middleweight champion Sean Strickland make his maiden defense. Going up against Drcius Du Plessis, “Tarzan” had engaged in much banter. But surprisingly enough, Strickland had refused to face off with Du Plessis, inclining to his usual brash slurs. The South African has no such inclinations though.
This was regarding the champion opting to avoid eye contact with Du Plessis at the pre-fight press conference faceoff. Now, at the ceremonial weigh-ins, Strickland had done just about the same thing. Surprisingly though, the fighter additionally looks dazed and frozen up. Recently, the 185lbs phenom Du Plessis prompted no resting until the job is done. Putting in the legwork, here’s what he added on the matter –
[On final thoughts] ...Ain't got no predictions. But like they say, 'be careful what you wish for'...[To Strickland] You asked for death, your wish has been granted, my friend.Dricus Du Plessis at the pre-fight press conference for UFC 297

This was during the post-weigh-in commentary with John Anik. Du Plessis emerged majorly victorious in their final stare-off, before the title grudge match. Strickland (otherwise of a brash and unfiltered demeanor), and his changed stance have taken fans aback. A prime tweet caption read – “Dricus dropped the coldest line of UFC 297 fight week“.
Strickland’s preparation in the lead-up, along with his buffed physical transformation, has piqued fan interest. Having earned the moniker of ‘true American champion‘ and people’s champion, the fighter is remarkably popular with fans. However, with the latest, discourse, the South African has earned much more praise.
Fans react to Dricus Du Plessis’ cold-hearted ultimatum to Sean Strickland
After making weight on Friday morning, Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis had one last glance at each other during the ceremonial weigh-ins. Where they voiced a few final words and ultimatums.
That is, the title challenger did. Du Plessis, who has climbed his way to the #2 spot in the weight class, remains unfazed about his chances this weekend, at UFC 297.

Strickland, on the other hand, looked out of character, given his usual brashfulness. The rival took it upon himself to utilize this moment and dish out one final statement to the champion. And here’s how fight fans have subsequently reacted to it –
Most fans have praised the fighter for his dominating forewarning. Some have referred to him as struggling against Robert Whittaker at UFC 290 as well.
A few have, however, not given up hopes on the champion himself. Strickland, though absent from this momentous banter, might just yet turn things around. Only time will tell what holds for each of this 185lber.
