“I am pissed at myself” – Dustin Poirier admits to accepting Colby Covington fight out of desperation

Dustin Poirier gives details on why he accepted the Colby Covington fight

Dustin Poirier wants the whole world to know that it was not his wish to fight Colby Covington. “The Diamond” has his reasons why he accepted the fight against “The Chaos” recently.

Dustin Poirier has been sidelined from the octagon since December of 2021. While Dustin will not hesitate to fight anyone in the world, there is one fighter that he wishes to not fight ever and that is his former American Top Team teammate, Colby Covington. However, it seems like Poirier is in a position where he HAS to accept a fight against “The Chaos”.

Recently Dustin made an appearance on The MMA Hour show hosted by Ariel Helwani. On the show, Ariel Helwani questioned Poirier on what made him accept a fight against Covington, whom he absolutely despises and has said multiple times in the past that he won’t fight. Dustin says he was left with no other options from the UFC.

Dustin reveals that his idea of fighting Nate Diaz does not seem to be happening and the UFC has given him three other options. “It was either wait to the end of the year and fight for a #1 contender at lightweight, or fight in July, and that was the same that they gave me. So I was like, ‘F**k it'” said Poirier on The MMA Hour show talking to Ariel Helwani.

Dustin recently posted a tweet saying he accepts a fight with Colby Covington for the date of July 30th. Dustin has been repeatedly saying that he would never wish Colby to prosper of his name but times have changed and Poirier is left with no other options but to force himself to fight Covington in the octagon. Though Dustin has accepted the fight from his end, there is no word of Covington taking the fight.

“I’m kind of pissed off at myself for saying I’d do it. Not that I’m worried about the guy or his skillset or anything, it’s that I don’t want the f***ing guy to prosper because I said yes to a fight with him,” said Dustin in his interview.

However, Dustin is confident in his skills that he can contain Covington inside the octagon. “At least, if it does happen, it is not a fight where I am going to take any damage.”
