Dustin Poirier faced Justin Gaethje for the vacant BMF title at UFC 291. The fight ended with a brutal knockout as Gaethje landed a head kick to end the fight. Despite the loss, Poirier has expressed his wish to compete again before the end of the year. The fighter has hinted at a possible return by December, which could coincide with another huge fight.

Poirier tweeted, “I want to fight again this year.” If he manages to fight in December, fans may witness him and Conor McGregor on the same card. “The Notorious” is rumored to fight against Michael Chandler on the December PPV card. McGregor and Poirier have a long and bitter history together. The two have fought in the octagon three times, with Poirier winning two of those bouts. After the last fight, McGregor and Poirier remained interested in continuing the rivalry.

McGregor has not consistently competed in the UFC since winning the lightweight title in 2016. McGregor had recently confirmed that he was ready for December. If things go according to plan, McGregor could fight Chandler in December. On the other hand, Poirier needs to decide on the weight class of his choice. He indicated that he wanted to move up in weight.

Poirier has plenty of options in the welterweight division. However, all the top guys in the lightweight division are booked to face each other. Poirier might not accept fights with contenders like Arman Tsarurkyan or Beneil Dariush. Hence, a lot of decisions must be made before Poirier returns this year.

“The Diamond” Dustin Poirier is a bad man within the octagon. Knocking out 15 opponents in his MMA career, he surely knows how to hurt his opponent. Surprisingly, outside the combat field, Poirier fights for a completely different cause. His battle is for the needy and the underprivileged . Poirier is an active social worker and runs an organization called The Good Fight Foundation.

The foundation is based in Youngsville, LA, and is non profit in nature. Poirier and his wife have jointly worked on the project. The pair began this social venture by auctioning off Poirier’s UFC kits and using the funds to feed the hungry. They claim that the kit Poirier used against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 211 provided 300 meals to the underprivileged.

The donations and fundings that they receive go to disaster reliefs and free health care. Poirier is the current President and his wife is the Vice-President. For their next program, the foundation is organizing a run in September. This time, its about childhood cancer.
