Dustin Poirier recently rebounded from his knockout loss to Justin Gaethje from UFC 291. Taking on fast-streaking finisher and army veteran Benoit Saint-Denis, he executed a violent KO. This came at the 2:32 mark of Round 2 at UFC 299, thus proving that ‘Diamond’ does outshine when under pressure. However, it’s ‘Diamond’ putting the pressure on now, targeting Islam Makhachev.
Reigning #P4P and 155-pound king Makhachev had told MMA Junkie‘s coverage journo Mike Bohn that he’s open to defending his title against Poirier at UFC 302. However, he hinted that the undeserving Poirier would make do, gibing at his failed submission attempts. The Dagestani seems to be working on build-up with his contradictory baits.
However, Dustin Poirier knows his worth. An unbothered Poirier told USA TODAY Sports’ Mackenzie Salmon that he has been doing this for a long time. At 30-8 MMA, 22-7 UFC, he entered his 30th outing at UFC 299. Ranked #4 in the lightweight rankings, he doesn’t mind being a title-shot contender above UFC 300’s Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan pairing.

Porier was welcomed to the official Bud Light team and even mentioned not having “any stress being in line” with the brands’ woes. UFC 299 onward, Bud Light has increased media and brand showcasing. Poirier is aiming to take on Islam Mackhachev at some point this year for the lightweight gold. He might have something exciting on the way for that.
