Patrick Bet-David engaged in a conversation with UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier in 2021 after his trilogy fight with Conor McGregor. A significant part of the interview centered around Porier’s prowess as a fighter. During the interview, Poirier was adamant that he was the best boxer in the UFC.
He had harsh words for social media influencer-turned-boxers. Diamond vowed that he would punish these influencers if they stepped into the ring with him. He also praised Max Holloway, Conor McGregor, and Justin Gaethje. When asked about whether McGregor could come back, Poirier said that The Notorious has the skillset to come back.
When further asked about fighting after winning a lot of money, Poirer, with a smile, replied, “I don’t know man, did i say that it’s hard to wake up and run those miles when you sleep in the silk pajamas.” Needless to say, Poirier was the first person to knock out Conor McGregor in professional MMA.
The Louisiana native has been revered as one of the best fighters in the lightweight division. With tremendous cardio and rhythm, he has countered his weakness of being slow. A move to welterweight is in the works for Dustin Poirier. Gilbert Burns, Shavkat Rakhmonov, and Vicente Luque have already raised their hands to welcome Poirier.
Recently, Dustin Poirier suffered a brutal head-kick KO against Justin Gaethje at UFC 291. With the victory, Gaethje avenged the knockout loss he suffered in 2018 in what was his third fight with the promotion.
Max Holloway is the toughest opponent that Dustin Poirier fought
When Patrick Bet-David interviewed Dustin Poirier in 2021, he was asked to name the fighter who had a dog in him. Without a moment of hesitation, Poirier’s answer was Max Holloway. He also considered Justin Gaethje to be tough.
Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier fought for the interim lightweight title when the former was the featherweight champion. The fight showcased the immense toughness of the Hawaiians. He was hurt, but he never went down. As of now, Holloway has yet to touch the canvas resulting from a blow. Poirier has knocked out the likes of Justin Gaethje, but he couldn’t get rid of Holloway.
After the loss to Gaethje at UFC 291, Dustin Poirier believes that he could win the trilogy fight with Gaethje after or before he contends for the title. Poirier also has plans to move up in weight, where there are a plethora of contenders available for him.
