UFC 291 is just a few hours away and fans are super excited to see the main event bout between Dustin Poirier vs Justin Gaethje. Both fighters have the reputation of putting out great performances every time they step inside the octagon and this time it won’t be any different. In an interview after the weigh-ins, Poirier mentioned how he thinks about fighting for the iconic BMF title.
Dustin Poirier said: “I know that me and Justin are both BMFs. We leave it all out there every fight but getting the crown of the BMF, it’s cool man. It’s part of history, it’s legacy.” According to Poirier, it’s a huge legacy of UFC, and winning the belt would be cool. The former UFC lightweight title contender also revealed that being a part of main event bouts is different from normal fights.
“Anytime you main event the pay-per-view, the vibe, the energy, the arena, the media, everything is just overblown compared to a regular fight,” said Poirier. “War,” simply said Poirier when asked about what fans can expect from his fight against Gaethje.
UFC commentator Jon Anik believes Justin Gaethje could retire at UFC 291
Justin Gaethje told the media after his most recent match at UFC 286 against Rafael Fiziev that he “wouldn’t be around for too much longer.” The Highlight made it known that he would end his MMA career as soon as he felt he was no longer in the title picture. Jon Anik recently did an interview with Schmo and revealed that if Gaethje loses the upcoming fight with Dustin Poirier he might think towards retirement.
He said: “If Gaethje were to lose this fight on Saturday night I wouldn’t be surprised to see him hang up the gloves for good. I’m certainly not in the business of retiring fighters, and were [he] to take one more fight, it could be a million-dollar payday. I understand that this is the prize fighting business.”
Gaethje is 34 years old and still has a lot of fighting in him however if the fighter decides to leave everything. It will be hard for the promotion to stop him, irrespective of the lightweight title win, Gaethje will be remembered for his incredible fight record.
