“I’m not hearing mine”- Dustin Poirier highlights Michael Chandler’s reluctance to pick a fight against him

Dustin Poirier- Michael Chandler

UFC Lightweight and potential welterweight Dustin Poirier seem to have found his motivation back at 155 lbs, or maybe he will at least fight a lightweight at 170 lbs. Poirier, who last fought and lost his second title fight against Charles Oliveira at UFC 269 back in December 2021. Poirier has been now looking for a fight as almost half the year has gone and no one has actually reciprocated the desire to fight the interim lightweight champion.

The most called out fight from Poirier was him against Nate Diaz. But both Diaz and Poirier have found being hindered by the UFC as Diaz is on the final fight of his current contract and is most likely to test free agency, so the UFC is looking for another fight for him, something that matches the magnitude of the Stockton, California native and seems that the UFC has unofficially found a matchup for him in #3 ranked welterweight Khamzat Chimaev.

Poirier saw what happened at UFC 274 when UFC Lightweight Michael Chandler knocked out Tony Ferguson with a front kick to the face. The promo cutting in the Octagon interview by Chandler was as spectacular as his knockout of Ferguson. In the Octagon, Chandler called out for the winner of Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje, which is Oliveira as we know now, and also called out Conor McGregor.

Poirier took to Twitter to called Chandler “Michaelangelo” and said “A lot of names being said by Iron Michelangelo but I’m not hearing mine. Respectfully” Chandler has probably not called out Poirier due to a personal beef with the former interim champion. Chandler’s fight with Oliveira back in 2021 was called a fight for the “gold fish title” by Poirier because he believed as a #1 contender, he should’ve got the fight but because Poirier chose to fight McGregor over title, the lightweight championship couldn’t be left vacant for long.

Who do you think would win between Chandler and Poirier? Do you think that’s an exciting fight? If you put this fight on paper, yes it is. Both are skilled boxers with sufficient grappling abilities to choke someone out if that’s needed, but the fight is most probably going to end in a knockout.
