Dustin Poirier is set to make his comeback in the upcoming UFC pay-per-view in August. Poirier is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in the current generation of UFC fighters. The Louisiana native has been part of some of the most successful pay-per-view events fighting stars like Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor and Charles Oliveira.

Poirier has made a reputation of being a strong and reliable competition for everyone who will guarantee an entertaining fight for the fans. Although the fighter has lost the opportunity to be the lightweight champion twice in the last few years, it doesn’t decrease his capabilities inside the octagon. It’s been some time since the #7 ranked pound-for-pound fighter fought inside the octagon.

After his last loss against Oliveira, Poirier decided to move up and fight in the welterweight division. His name was linked with Nate Diaz and it was looking positive as both the fighters agreed to fight. Diaz, who is on his last fight of the contract, was open to the fight. But that didn’t happen as UFC decided to drop that idea. After that Poirier also was involved in an online dispute with Colby Covington as both the fighters really hate each other in real life.

Poirier recently took the Twitter to share his thoughts on his much-anticipated comeback after a six months gap.

In the tweet, ‘ The Diamond’ promoted the possibility of him fighting on August 20th. The UFC 278 pay-per-view event which will be headlined by Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards. He wrote :

August 20th??.”

With names like Usman, Edwards and Poirier, UFC 278 is already a star-filled event and fans are excited about it. However, there is still no confirmation regarding who will be going to fight Poirier in the upcoming contest.

Poirier was called out by Colby Covington after ‘ The Chaos’ defeated Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272. Back then, Poirier was focused on Diaz and showed no internet in fighting Covington but the animosity between the two was pretty clear. Last month, Poirier accepted Covington’s offer on Twitter and confirmed he is ready to fight.

It’s hard to say who is going to fight against Poirier at UFC 278 but it will be an entertaining one for which fight fans are extremely excited.
