Dustin Poirier has been out of the sport for almost six months now. The fighter last fought Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title and lost the fight via submission. It was Poirier’s second title opportunity that he couldn’t turn into a win.

After that, the ‘Diamond’ shared his thoughts on moving up a weight class and fighting Nate Diaz at the welterweight division. However, that fight never took place.

The fighter has lately been very eager to get into the octagon and has discussed with UFC regarding the matter. Recently, in an interview in an installation of the ‘DC & RC’ Show, Poirier claimed that he has been focused and training for his comeback. He said :

“I’m still fully into the fight game. Still training every day and in a couple of days, I’m leaving to go back to South Florida to train at American Top Team. I think I’m going to pack my bags and stay there until I fight somebody.”

Poirier is well known for his frequent tweets and fan interactions on Twitter. The fighter has always been extremely active and likes share things about his professional life on social media.

Recently the fighter made a tweet regarding his next fight and how he thinks it is going to turn out. Poirier wrote, ” Slaughter next time out ” revealing that he is going to destroy his next opponent inside the cage.

Although it increases the excitement of the fight it is still unknown who is going to fight opposite Poirier on the card. One of the major potential candidates for this fight is the former Bellator champion, Michael Chandler. The 36 year old, recently defeated Tony Ferguson via a brutal knockout and is looking great. The sparks of this rivalry started at UFC 276 when the pair got into a verbal altercation.

There is huge possibility of this fight to be taking place in future and it will definitely attract a lot of attention given the reputation of these fighters.
