Dustin Poirier lost his last fight to Justin Gaethje at UFC 292. ‘The Highlight’ knocked Poirier out to claim the BMF title. After his loss, he also lost his opportunity to fight for the title. Then, he teased a move to welterweight.

Recently, Dustin Poirier made an appearance on the MMA Hour Show. He talked about his next fight in the UFC. As such, he showed interest only in title elimination fights or really huge fights in terms of excitement. However, he didn’t have a specific name in mind. Here is what he said:

A fight that guarantees me a title fight or a really big fight, something that I'm super excited about doing. That's all I want.

Recently, Islam Makhachev was to fight Charles Olivera at UFC 294, but the latter got injured. As such, Dustin Poirier was offered a shot at the title. The rightful contender Justin Gaethje was offered the fight first, but he declined. However, Poirier accepted the fight and took his chance. But the UFC changed the plan and put Alexander Volkanovski as the replacement.

‘The Diamond’ has always shared his interest in only taking fights that excite him. As such, he wanted big names or title-eliminator fights. But with a record of 1-2 in his last three bouts, it is hard for him to get into a title eliminator straight away. However, Dustin Poirier draws the crowds and is a huge fan favorite which might earn him that shot.

Dustin Poirier set his eyes on making a return on UFC 300 fight card

Dustin Poirier is a household name in the UFC lightweight division. He has a record of 29 wins and 8 losses including wins over prominent names like Conor McGregor, Michael Chandler, Justin Gaethje, and Max Holloway. As such, he expressed his wish to fight in the historical card of UFC 300.

In an interview with MMAJunkie, Dustin Poirier took a look back at his career in the UFC. Since he missed out on the opportunity to feature at UFC 200, he showed his interest in fighting at UFC 300. Also, in his recent tweet, he affirmed that he was working on something for UFC 300.

Earlier, Dustin Poirier named Justin Gaethje as an opponent for UFC 300. But Gaethje was willing to wait for his shot at the title. Earlier, Poirier had two chances at the lightweight undisputed title against Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Olivera. But, lost them both. However, he became an interim champion by beating Max Holloway in 2019.
