“Sky’s the limit for him,” Dustin Poirier showers praises at Rafael Fiziev over the latter’s victory at UFC Vegas 58

Dustin Poirier- Rafael Fiziev

Dustin Poirier is not in a mood to complement the lightweight division since he is having a hard time finding a fight at 155 lbs, but he cannot deny Rafael Fiziev’s rise either. Poirier last fought in December 2021 when he lost his second title shot to former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira via submission. Poirier has since been on a Twitter raid to call out names after names varying from lightweight to welterweight, one of the primary names was that of Nate Diaz but the fight didn’t happen as usual.

Poirier is a former interim UFC lightweight champion who’s had wins over the likes of Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway, Dan Hooker, Eddie Alvarez, Anthony Pettis, Jim Miller, Bobby Green, Joseph Duffy, Yancy Medeiros, Diego Ferreira, Diego Brandao and many more. Poirier is arguably one of the greatest non-champion UFC fighters in history. Besides fighting, Poirier is also actively involved in social work through his organisation The Good Fight Foundation and his hot sauce business.

In a co-host session alongside UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier in a special segment organised by ESPN MMA, Poirier talks objectively about Rafael Fiziev’s rise to the top, especially with Fiziev’s last win against a former world champion in Rafael Dos Anjos.

“I think the sky’s the limit for this guy,” says Poirier “You know he beat a former world champion, he showed a great takedown defence, he showed cardio, he showed power, he showed everything it takes to step up and be a contender and I am excited to see what’s next for the guy. Great showing… RDA [Dos Anjos] was trying his best to nullify the moment, put him against the fence, get takedowns and Fiziev showed a great takedown defence, made the guy fight in the middle of the Octagon…” continues Poirier.

Do you agree with Poirier on the assessment of Fiziev’s rise to the top and the latter’s last fight against Dos Anjos? Fiziev now has incredible victories over the likes of Dos Anjos, Bobby Green, Brad Riddell, Renato Carneiro, Mark Diakiese and many more. Who do you think Fiziev should fight next? Ideally, Fiziev wants to fight former interim UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje. How do you think that fight will go? Who do you think would win in a fight between Fiziev and Poirier?
