Amidst the rumors of a potential Elon Musk vs. Mark Zuckerberg fight, Dana White went on the Pat McAfee Show to discuss the realm of MMA. McAfee and White discussed Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou on the show. McAfee stated that a potential UFC vs. PFL crossover event could excite the fans, but Dana White shut it down. He went along with his old notion that the UFC will never co-promote.
Dana White said, “It wouldn’t work. Francis was here, Jon Jones wanted that fight, the whole time. We tried to make the fight with Francis.” The UFC President also shut down any potential crossover with PFL that could happen during the interview. Dana White has maintained in the last couple of months that Ngannou will never return to the UFC. They offered him the biggest contract in heavyweight history, and Ngannou wanted more.
Elon vs. Zuck has more chances to materialize than a super fight between Jon Jones and Ngannou. Jon Jones vacated his light heavyweight title in 2020 to pursue his ambition of moving to the heavyweight division. He took significant time to bulk up to the heavyweight division and got sidetracked by personal problems. All of that took Jones three years to return to the UFC.
In the meantime, Francis Ngannou defeated Stipe Miocic in 2021 and captured the heavyweight belt. He defended his title at UFC 270 against Ciryl Gane, and fans expected him to fight Jones for his second title defense. However, it did not materialize as Ngannou and the UFC disagreed on a contract. The negotiations failed, and Ngannou left the company to sign with the PFL. White has not forgotten about the negotiations and may have blocked Ngannou from returning to the UFC.
