“I have a lot more to show”- Fabricio Werdum is uninterested in contemplating his retirement

Fabricio Werdum

The former UFC heavyweight champion and highly decorated jiu-jitsu competitor intends to stay in the sport and hopes to secure a fight this summer.

After a historic victory over Alexander Gustafsson by submission on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi in July, he became a free agent. After failing to negotiate an extension with the UFC, he opted to assess his options and test the market.

In an interview SCMP MMA”, he stated, “The respect PFL have for fighters. This is very important to us. When the event has a big respect, you want to show that. You want to prepare your body to give a show, too.”

In an interview with Hablemos MMA, Fabricio Werdum stated, “My businesses have been doing well – my clothing brand, my meat business, and all that – but there’s no way around it, my business is fighting.”

The heavyweight roster for the 2022 PFL season has already been finalized. If the opportunity arises, Werdum is willing to compete in the heavyweight division. Regardless, the Brazilian simply wants to battle once more. Fabricio had a fantastic career and has a strong argument for being regarded among the best five heavyweight MMA fighters of all time.

Werdum’s 12–6 record in the UFC does not qualify him as the greatest heavyweight in the organization’s history. Most of the top names he faced in the UFC, like Junior Dos Santos, Stipe Miocic, Alistair Overeem, and Andrei Arlovski, lost to him. He won the UFC heavyweight title, but he lost it in his first defense.
