After Dricus Du Plessis defeated Robert Whittaker via knockout at UFC 290 to earn a potential title shot against middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, things took an ugly turn inside the cage. There was verbal chaos all over, even as the security personnel tried their best to hinder the same.

Following Dricus Du Plessis‘ victory, Adesanya approached the cage and was uncertain of how to respond. He initially asked Dricus to calm down and relax, only to change the subject and go on an offensive rant by calling him the N-word.

Here is how it went down:

This is my African brother right here, let’s go n***, what’s up b**h? Let’s go n***, here n***. Wassup n***? Yeah, my African brother!
Israel Adesanya yelled

Du Plessis then asked:

What do you say to everybody in New Zealand? What do you say?
Dricus Du Plessis asked

Adesanya went on to retort:

I don’t need a DNA test, I don’t need a [23AndMe] to know where I’m from. If they do a [23AndMe] it’ll say I’m from Nigeria. Do a [23AndMe] DNA test, it’ll tell you where you’re from.
Israel Adesanya retorted

The moment turned out to be a little bizarre as fans claimed that Izzy was trying to bait Du Plessis into saying the N-word back on the live telecast at UFC 290

The increasing conflict between Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya is mostly the result of several dubious claims made by Du Plessis regarding Adesanya’s ancestry. Since he lives and trains in South Africa, “Stillknocks” always claims he wants to be the first “real” African champion. Adesanya was born and raised in Nigeria, but now resides in New Zealand and trains at City Kickboxing.

Fans believed that during the confrontation Izzy wanted Du Plessis to say the N-word in order to prove that he’s African. Here are some of the reactions:

Izzy was mocked by many fans for his comments with some calling him for being racist towards Du Plessis. Nevertheless, it seems like the next middleweight title fight is fixed and it’s going to be extremely personal.
