Dana White‘s Power Slap has had an unfortunate time since its launch. The launch was delayed by one week due to an incident involving Dana White slapping his wife. Power Slap faces another hurdle as fans are against its inclusion in the latest UFC 290 PPV.

UFC president Dana White introduced the Power Slap League to glorify the new sport. White explains how the sport was initially conducted without a proper set of rules or with production in Eastern Europe. He asserts that even with such bad quality in the sport, it still managed to gain a lot of views on the internet. The businessman states that this was a golden opportunity to convert internet viewers into dedicated, paying fans by methodically organizing the sport with good-quality production.

As mentioned before, Power Slap has received backlash for various reasons, like health issues. Many healthcare professionals have spoken against the sport due to its risk of causing brain damage to the participants. Considering such heavy criticism, few people accepted the idea when it was announced that there would be a single slap match during the weigh-in show of UFC 290. The slap match will supposedly be between Nate “The Buffalo Soldier” Burnard and Stevie Ray Payne.

It’s safe to say that Dana White’s Power Slap can benefit a lot if they make a statement proving that the sport is safe beyond a reasonable doubt. The lack of credibility of the newly formed sport is one of the primary reasons for such aversion towards the promotion of Power Slap at UFC 290.

UFC 290 was turning out to be one of the most anticipated fight cards of the year. Elite fighters like Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez are heading the show on the 8th of July. Fans wanted to know everything there was to know about the fight card and make it a successful one, at the very least. But Dana White’s latest plan seems to have underwhelmed viewers in a significant way. One fan tweets: “Now they’re wheeling out two oafs to concuss each other at the weigh-ins. You know the fighters are humiliated being aligned with this shit.” Check out some other reactions:

Power Slap will surely get more fame if it is aired along with the weigh-in for UFC 290. Many people are unhappy about promoting a potentially dangerous sport to unknowing fans.
