Israel Adesanya has made a massive fanbase over the years in the UFC. He has showcased his pride and love for the countries of Nigeria and New Zealand many times in public. The UFC star has come a long way from his kickboxing days. Although most casual MMA fans won’t even know of Adesanya’s elite skill level in kickboxing before he started his career in MMA, it has given him his foundation in combat sports.
A milestone in Israel Adesanya’s kickboxing career was when he trained athletes in China using his experience and knowledge. But unfortunately, in a recent press conference, the ‘Last Stylebender’ admitted, “I have only represented China cos they were paying me money.“
In addition to this, Israel Adesanya also went off at the star of UFC 290, South African fighter Dricus Du Plessis. Izzy’s main point of contention was that he had Nigerian blood in him, which makes him Du Plessis’ “African brother,” whom he looks forward to defeating in the octagon. But the fans find Israel’s wavering loyalty to more than one country quite hypocritical.
A promising champion like Adesanya, who has proven he has the fight game in the octagon to defeat the best and the charisma outside the octagon to build a fan base, must not falter in such a manner. The UFC middleweight champion must maintain his calm and sincerity to grow his profile and legacy.
Fans are critical of Israel Adesanya’s statements regarding his affiliations with China
Considering Israel Adesanya’s questionable statements regarding his nationalism, many fight fans in the MMA world are in a heated debate with each other to justify Adesanya’s actions.
Some fans see his statements against China as a sign of disloyalty. In contrast, some fans see his perspective and understand his reasoning. Check out some of the fan reactions:
Because the fighter has the nation of Africa tattooed on his torso, it’s hard to conclude that he is disloyal to Nigeria. Throughout his career, He has also shown his gratitude to city kickboxing and the people of New Zealand. But his emotions towards China seemed rocky and urged fans to question his sincerity and loyalty on a general basis.
