MMA and UFC fans around the world are ecstatic as champion Georges St-Pierre will return in December. He will compete in a grappling match at UFC Invitational Fight Pass. GSP was stylistically one of the best fighters and dominated the welterweight division. He retired at the top with an impressive record of 26-2 in 2019. Fans wondered if he could fight Khabib Nurmagomedov at the event.

Speaking of returns, the former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov teased a return some time back. He had posted a video of him hitting cardio on the treadmill and wrote, “July I have to be ready” via Instagram, but he claimed that it was not for MMA. Khabib coaches on occasion after retiring from the sport. He coached the current lightweight champion and long-time teammate Islam Makachev to multiple victories.

GSP has remained in great shape since he retired, and so has Khabib, which led fans to believe that both the legends are training for their comeback in the UFC. Khabib’s exit from the UFC was due to his mother’s request. He retired with a perfect record of 29-0, and also defeated all the top competitors for the lightweight gold at that time. GSP last fought at UFC 217 in 2017, defeating Michael Bisping for the title but relinquishing it later due to health reasons.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and George St-Pierre are two of the most dominant and durable fighters in the history of the UFC. Fans on Twitter have speculated about this matchup between the two former champions since GSP’s announcement to return in December.
