Grasso competed against longtime champion Valentina Shevchenko and submitted Valentina in the fourth round. The duo rematched at UFC Noche in honor of the Mexican Independence Day. Alexa Grasso retained the title via a split draw against Valentina Shevchenko.

Shevchenko came in with a particular focus – win the title back. Grasso again aimed to defeat Shevchenko to prove that the first fight was not a fluke win.
