Raul Rosas Jr. is an 18-year-old bantamweight contender in the UFC. He is the youngest fighter to win a bout in the UFC. His loss against Christian Rodriguez at UFC 287 became a huge setback. However, he bounced back in spectacular fashion against Terrence Mitchell. He knocked out Mitchell in the first round to get the hype back on him again.
The bout started with a firm focus on Rosas Jr.’s face. As soon as the fight started, Mitchell and Rosas Jr. began trading punches. The pressure and counter of Raul got to Mitchell. Raul Rosas Jr. dropped Mitchell with a counter and went to win the bout via ground and pound. Raul improved his striking and did not rely on his wrestling like usual.
His first loss came due to his lack of striking skill. Christian Rodriguez outstruck him and stuffed the takedowns in the second and third rounds. Once Rosas Jr. could not find the takedowns, it became easier for Rodriguez to win the fight. Rodriguez used his superior striking to defeat Rosas Jr. at UFC 287. The loss made fans not believe in Rosas Jr.
However, he has proved his doubters wrong with an excellent performance at UFC Noche. He must improve other aspects of his game to become a better fighter. An improved skillset is necessary in the deep bantamweight division. Rosas Jr. is only 18. Hence, he should continue to get tune-up fights before challenging the top 15 of the division.
