The 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter featured the return of Conor McGregor into the series. He coached a team of young and upcoming fighters against a team of veterans led by Michael Chandler. In the most recent episode, lightweight champion Islam Makhachev came for a guest appearance. However, some fans were disappointed that Conor McGregor and Islam Makhachev did not encounter each other.

Islam Makhachev came to visit Timur Valiev, a contestant in the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter. Valiev competes for Team Chandler and will face Brad Katona on the TUF. Katona and Valiev competed in the most competitive fight of season 31. In a closely contested contest, Katona defeated Valiev to proceed to the finals. Makhachev would be disappointed to know that Valiev lost the bout.

The episode would have been excellent if Makhachev had met with McGregor. The Irishman had an intense rivalry with Makhachev’s teammate Khabib Nurmagomedov. Hence, they remain on unfriendly terms. It is a kind of unfriendliness that will never get resolved. Islam Makhachev is the lightweight champion and will face Charles Oliveira in a rematch at UFC 294.

On the other hand, McGregor has yet to enter the USADA testing pool to become eligible for his UFC return. The Irishman and Chandler could face each other as long as the USADA could clear McGregor. However, in the past few days, McGregor indicated his desire to compete against the new BMF champion Justin Gaethje. If McGregor and Makhachev keep winning, they can compete in the octagon.

The MMA community thought of all the possible scenarios if McGregor met Makhachev. One fan wrote, “Conor somehow vanished into thin air when the champ walked in,” in a hilarious comment.

Others wondered if Conor and Makhachev have ever interacted with each other. Some predicted that the video would have instantly made over 1 million if the Irishman and the champion met in person.

Somehow, McGregor’s only shot at revenge against Khabib Nurmagomedov remains defeating Islam Makhachev. However, considering their career trajectories, it will not happen for the foreseeable future.
