The Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor bout in 2017 became one of the biggest combat sports events ever. After the bout, each fighter took home an alleged $100 million in revenue. The president of the UFC, Dana White, was one of the promoters. Plenty of controversies followed it despite the event’s success. Dana White’s recent comments regarding the bout received a lot of backlash from fans.
In an interview with media publication BroBible, Dana White spoke about a potential fight between Tyson Fury and Jon Jones exchange. The UFC and boxing champions had a heated back-and-forth on who would win in a fight. The president of the UFC seemed excited about the rivalry and offered to set up a cage match between the two. White, as an example, provided the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor bout. However, this did not sit right with the fans.
Dana White said, “We can talk all we want. Tyson can talk, Jon Jones can talk, I can talk, we can all talk. Let’s do it. If Tyson is serious, and he wants to do it, listen, I got Floyd Mayweather to fight [Conor McGregor], and we paid Floyd. We got Floyd the number he wanted. If Tyson Fury is serious, and he wants to fight Jon Jones in the UFC, let’s start talking.”
Dana White claims to have paid Floyd Mayweather his requested share following the Conor McGregor bout. However, fans and journalists feel slighted. They went on social media to attack the UFC president regarding his ‘lies.’

Dana White’s recent claims of settling Floyd Mayweather’s payout have made the rounds on Twitter. Ahead of his bout against Conor McGregor, Floyd was rumored to have been settled by other organizers, not White himself. Due to this, fans attacked the president of the UFC on Twitter. One fan wrote, “‘I got Floyd to fight McGregor, and we paid Floyd’ A complete rewriting of history.” This indicated that White did not pay Mayweather for the 2017 super fight.
Fans were interested after Dana White referred to the Francis Ngannou vs. Anthony Joshua bout as ‘gimmicky.’ Fans pointed out the ‘laughable’ comment he made regarding Ngannou, all while being hopeful of setting up a fight between Tyson Fury and Jon Jones. White had also mentioned following the McGregor vs. Mayweather bout that this would be his last cross-over event. This will go down as another one of White’s lies.
