Israel Adesanya and Drake
UFC 276 will be a high-stakes event not just for the fighter but also for Drake, who is betting on Israel Adesanya to win his title battle.
In a championship defence fight, Israel Adesanya will square off against Jared Cannonier in the Co-main card event of UFC 276. To show his support, Drake told Adesanya that he is betting big on him retaining the middleweight title.
Drake says while face-timing “undefeated” middleweight champ, “You know I put a light million up, I wasn’t playing. Return on investment is a lot.”
Drake has previously revealed his sports wagers, including one on Odell Beckham Jr.’s performance in Super Bowl LVI. He staked roughly $1.26 million on the said game. With Adesanya currently a -490 favourite, a win for Israel would net Drake a $250,000 profit.
“I wish I saw this before I bet the house on Izzy”, Fans react to the possibility of Drake Curse on Israel Adesanya, mere hours before UFC 276
Israel Adesanya, the middleweight champion, is ready to defend his championship for the fifth time. However, after the champion face-timed music phenom, a few fans are concerned if it would invoke the Drake Curse.
Among UFC competitors and fans, ‘The Drake Curse’ is a recurring gag. The joke arose when fans came to the conclusion that fighters started losing matches after being associated with the Canadian sensation. It is also a running gag in other sports.
As a result, when fans watched a video of Israel Adesanya chatting to the musician, they reacted in a number of ways. A fan commented, “I wish I saw this before I bet the house on Izzy.” Another person on social media stated, “As soon as Drake said “I had to put a light mill on my brother” Izzy shoulda hung up so he might have a chance to undo the Drake Curse.” “If I’m a fighter and Drake bets on me I’m pulling out of the damn thing”, commented another.
So what do think now? Will Israel Adesanya win the fight or will the Drake Curse strike again? Let us know in the comment section.
