“The Notorious” Conor McGregor has weighed in on a subject of the MMA world. The number of rounds in a #1 contender’s matchup has become a debate among fans. The Irishman took to X to say the same, to which fans of the MMA community have agreed.
Former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman faced Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi. The duo fought to become the #1 contender for the middleweight title. The match only had the usual three rounds. The victor of which would accordingly go on to challenge champion Sean Strickland at a later date. Speaking on the matter, this is what McGregor had to say:

The fans have reacted mainly on a positive note to this notion. One such reaction said, “For once, I agree with you.” This sentiment has reverted through fans and fighters alike for many years. A #1 contender fight has plenty of things at stake. A three-round fight might not do justice for it. Hence, fans applauded McGregor for suggesting a five-round fight for important bouts such as this.
Recently, the Irishman informed on submitting samples to the USADA testing pool. He will likely fight Michael Chandler in the first quarter of 2024. Considering his star power, McGregor and Chandler could headline the iconic UFC 300 card.

The victor of the 3-round fight would go on to face the middleweight champion. Numerous fan reactions have pooled in, mostly praising McGregor on his stance.
