Kamaru Usman and Khamzat Chimaev are eager to fight each other at the UFC. The Nigerian confirms his fight against Khamzat and is ready for another showdown at the Welterweight division.
Usman has consecutively lost his last two fights, which were Welterweight title fights against reigning champion Leon Edwards. These were the only losses in Usman’s eclectic UFC career. A win against Khamzat Chimaev may put him closer to a third title fight.
Taking to Twitter, Kamaru Usman tagged Khamzat Chimaev in a recent tweet and encouraged the rumored matchup between the two. Chimaev, who too isn’t one to back down from a challenge, replied in a similar fashion. Chimaev hasn’t fought since September 2022.
However, UFC President Dana White isn’t happy with the entire callout. He has an issue with the weight class the two fighters reportedly wish to fight each other. While Usman eyes his next title shot in the Welterweight division, he has called out Chimaev for a catchweight fight.
The UFC President has addressed this by saying, “What I hate about that fight and calling him out, Usman is calling him out at a catchweight — I don’t do catch weights, I don’t like catch weights. Catchweights mean nothing… If wants to move up to 185 and fight, we could talk about it. But trying to fight him at a catchweight, I’m not interested in.”
Fans react to Kamaru Usman vs Khamzat Chimaev potential matchup
Fans are eagerly waiting for the potential matchup of Khamzat Chimaev and Kamaru Usman. They shared their reactions on Twitter as the Nigerian challenged Chimaev.
Ultimately, the decision lies with Dana White. Since he mentions he isn’t interested in a catchweight fight, a potential matchup may be witnessed in the welterweight or middleweight division.
Both fighters have an impressive track record and Khamzat remains undefeated with 12 wins and 0 losses. If the fight does get confirmed, it is to be seen at what weight class Dana White allows it and how the fans react to it.
