The brutal blow Weili Landed that put Joanna to the canvas
Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk put up a battle for the ages when they fought for the first time back in 2020. The intensity and fame of the bout left no one in doubt that the two women would run it back eventually down the road. If anyone thinks sequels can’t stand up to originals, these women just proved them wrong.
Both Zhang Weili and Joanna Jer gave the fans a round 6 that was very reminiscent of the last time they faced off, in fact, if one were gullible enough they could ideally convince themselves that the two just got off the stools after round 5 (well except for Joanna’s head still resembling a human being) Weili mixed it up well with wrestling and powerful exchanges in the pocket, this ultimately leading to a statement-making round 2 KO of Joanna via a spinning back fist.
After the fight however while Zhang announced she has bigger things ahead of her, while Joanna broke the hearts of many and announced that she was retiring from the sport.
Fans shared the unanimous appreciation for the fight as long as it lasted
Fans also appreciated the gravity of the fight and the pressure on the two after their last performances
Many wouldn’t have minded the UFC starting a separate organization that repeatedly books the two to fight each other.
Others pointed out that Weili made good of her promise to Coach Cejudo and made the olympian proud with her wrestling
The ultimate result of the fight had many concluding Weili to be the rightful strawweight queen
Others were purely worried for Carla’s well-being as a champion in light of the improved Weili

Then the tributes to Joanna’s illustrious 2-decade long career started pouring in.
Fans also appreciated how the former strawweight queen grew on them as her career progressed especially in it’s last few years
Then there were the occasionally lost souls who still seem to think the UFC is scripted
Weili will now face Esparza for the strawweight title before the end of the year as confirmed by Dana White
