Rose Namajunas has cemented her legacy as a top strawweight fighter in the UFC. But Namanjunas’ decision to move up to flyweight has sparked conversation amongst fans on Twitter.
“Thug Rose” has achieved greatness in the strawweight division by winning the championship belt twice against formidable opponents. But she has struggled in the recent parts of her strawweight career. Rose Namajunas lost her title fight against Carla Esparaza at UFC 274, leaving the division in tatters. The fighter decided to try her luck at ‘submission grappling,’ which also turned out to be a failed venture.
Rose Namajunas has recently decided to move up to the flyweight division to challenge Valentina Shevchenko for the flyweight belt eventually. The former Strawweight champion has jumped into the mix by securing a fight against current no. two flyweight contender Manon Fiorot at UFC Paris. This decision has excited some fans and disappointed others.
Another UFC fighter Joanne Wood believes that Rose Namajunas will struggle to keep up with “girls who are much bigger.” Woods’ opinion does mean something since she is a fighter who has successfully made the jump between the two divisions in the UFC.

Many fans have reacted in surprise to Rose Namajunas’ move to the flyweight division in the UFC. Her “thug” like fighting will certainly be impactful in the division, but whether she holds up against the difference in strategies due to weight changes will be intriguing to watch.
One fan said, “Sir, that’s a male gang member.” Another chimed in, bringing up Georges St-Pierre, “GSP looking lean.” Check out some other fan reactions:
Rose Namjunas has much left to prove to establish her reputation as one of UFC’s most outstanding women MMA fighters. Her recent losses against Zhang Weili in the Strawweight division have left a chip on her shoulder, entering into a new division.
