Colby Covington will fight Leon Edwards for the welterweight title later this year. Recently, he received his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Colby Covington surprised his fans on Instagram with a picture of the designated black belt.
‘Chaos’ last fought against rival Jorge Masvidal in March of 2022. He won the fight easily via a unanimous decision and did not fight since. Being away for a while did not mean that Covington took a break from training. During this time, he acquired the coveted Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu belt. Black belts are the ultimate prize in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Only the best practitioners receive the ultimate prize. Covington earned it with his hard work and discipline.
The former UFC champion is set to make his UFC return later this year. Colby Covington is reportedly set to fight Leon Edwards for the title shot at UFC 291 in London. Colby surprised everyone when he weighed in as the backup fighter at UFC 286 between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards. Edwards defeated Usman at the event, and Dana White gave Covington the No.1 contender spot.
The decision ruffled some feathers in the welterweight division. Many believed that Colby did not deserve the title shot. Belal Muhammad and Shavkat Rakhmonov have a better-winning streak to compete for the title. However, Colby’s star power made Dana White award him a title shot.

Valverde is an accomplished Judo and Jiu-Jitsu black belt from Brazil. Fans teased him with a video of Islam Makhachev.
