Two-time strawweight champion Rose Namajunas went against Manon Fiorot at the co-main event of UFC Fight Night. Fiorot won the fight by a unanimous decision after dominating Namajunas for three rounds straight. Reports suggest Namajunas broke her finger after the first round. A major factor in her loss at the Fight Night. A clip of Namajunas disclosing the injury to cornerman Pat Barry went online.
In this clip, Rose walks back to her corner to let the coaches know about her injury. This follows in questionable advice by life partner and cornerman Pat Barry. As the fighter sits down, Barry says, “It’s alright, you don’t need a finger right now.” This advice led to a Twitter outrage from many fans from the UFC. Some of the fans questioned Barry’s intent behind the advice. A fan commented, “Someone arrests Pat Barry right now.“
There was a notable absence in Namajunas’s corner as her head coach Trevor Wittman failed to make an appearance. Pat Barry stepped in on Wittman’s position in the fight. But Barry was not able to make an impact as a coach. His game plan went haywire as Fiorot counter-strike every move that Namajunas made.
The relationship of Pat Barry and Rose Namajunas has caused some amount of controversy in the combat world. But, the former champ’s loss at the UFC could affect her confidence in her further fights.
Fans react to the clip of cornerman Pat Barry’s advice to Rose Namajunas
Many fans believe that Pat Barry’s advice was the major reason behind Rose Namajunas’s loss against Manon Fiorot. After a possible broken finger, Namajunas was facing difficulty in throwing strikes at her opponent. Every one of her punches was getting countered by Fiorot. This performance was not at par with what many fans have seen of Namajunas in the past. Check some of the fan reactions to the clip of the corner advice of Barry to Namajunas.
Rose’s head coach Trevor Wittman’s absence left a lot of questions for many fans. Trevor is a big influence in the corner and has coached many stars in the UFC. Wittman’s presence could’ve led to a different outcome in the fight. But, for now, Namajunas has to find a way to bounce back from these losses. A change in the cornerman or a change in the game plan is a decision that needs to take place soon.
