UFC recently visited San Antonio, where they held UFC on ESPN 43, a fight card that turned out to be a massive success. However, the event experienced a much-anticipated fight between Alex Perez and Manel Kape being canceled at the very last minute.
Initially, there was no clear news about why the fight was canceled and what the main reason was. While there has been a lot of speculation surrounding the fight cancellation, Perez took his Instagram to give an explanation to his fans and followers. In the message, the fighter revealed that just before the fight he experienced a seizure, which forced him to take his name off. According to the fighter, it has nothing to do with his weight cut as it was easy and his vitals were normal too. However, he will be checking with a doctor soon and doing the required tests.
He wrote: “First and foremost, I want to thank everyone for all the support and concerns. I was doing my pre-fight warm up and had a seizure. I immediately received medical attention. My hydration, electrolytes, etc were all more than adequate. This has nothing to do with weight cut. It was one of the easiest cuts of my career. I will be undergoing further testing in the upcoming weeks to determine the cause. I would appreciate privacy. My apologizes to my opponent and fans. Thank you to the UFC medical team for their help and support.”
Alex Perez is currently on a two-fight losing streak, and this fight was extremely important for him. Unfortunately, he was disappointed and hopeless due to what happened.
Alex Perez’s teammate weighs in at his dangerous seizure that shocked everybody on his team
Perez’s last fight was against Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 277, which Perez lost in the first round. Before that, he faced the former featherweight champion, Deiveson Figueiredo, at UFC 255 and also lost in the first round via submission.
After the recent incident, Perez’s teammate and UFC veteran fighter, Vince Morales, took theTwitter and made sure he shared his views on the situation with the public. The fighter also asked fans not to disrespect Perez and to show some compassion towards him in this situation.
He wrote: “Not my place to talk about what happened with Alex. Scary stuff but hopefully it eases everyone’s minds that by the time the EMTs got there, he was together and speaking okay. Watch the slander.”
Perez’s luck has been pretty bad since 2020 with a total of 10 fight cancellations on his record. He has been scheduled to fight with fighters such as Kai Kara-France, Amir Albazi, Askar Askarov, and Matt Schnell, several times but they never materialized due to various reasons.
