Eddie Alvarez is a former UFC champion and an experienced MMA fighter. He competed in 40 fights in his career. In 2023, he joined the Bare-Knuckle Fighting Championship after a stint in ONE Championship. Alvarez defeated Chad Mendes in his debut at BKFC 41. At the post-fight press conference, he made a shocking statement about the future of BKFC. Alvarez claimed that BKFC would be the biggest sport in the world.

Eddie Alvarez said, “When you look at every sport and the evolution of every sport, Basketball started the shot clock, and even Football started to shorten up the play to make it more action-packed, and I even felt that in there. Chad would drop me, and I was able to recover and keep it exciting. When it is two minutes, makes it more action-packed, we all win when you make it to two minutes.

Alvarez feels it is difficult to fight five rounds in MMA. Sometimes, fights might not produce action-packed encounters in a 25-minute contest. BKFC has only two minutes per round. Alvarez feels that the fight becomes exciting when the time gets shortened. He used the example of Basketball to explain his points. In the past, Basketball did not have a shot clock. Currently, they have a 24-second shot clock before which one team has to attempt to score. The introduction of the shot clock made it more exciting for the sport, and it became the billion-dollar league in the United States.

BKFC has reduced the time of the fight to just ten minutes. Boxing matches of 12 rounds usually go for 36 minutes. The main event of UFC is scheduled for 25 minutes. Alvarez feels that shortening the length of the fight will lead to more action-packed encounters and ignite fan interest in the sport.
