On June 18, a featherweight bout between Calvin Kattar and Josh Emmett will be the main event of a UFC Fight Night, the company announced on Saturday. The UFC Fight Night event will be held in Austin, Texas.
Kattar is coming off a stunning victory over Giga Chikadze back in January. Kattar, a native of Massachusetts, only fought once in 2021, taking a lot of punishment in a five-round loss against Max Holloway. Kattar, on the other hand, appeared better than ever after taking a year off against Chikadze, who had won seven consecutive UFC fights.
Emmett has a four-fight winning streak under his belt. He also only fought once in 2021, defeating Dan Ige in three rounds in December. This will be his first appearance since the year 2022.
Calvin Kattar’s skillset and analysing his bout against Josh Emmett
When Kattar fought with Chikadze. He set the tone right away, taking advantage of a Chikadze slip to drag the Georgian back to the mat and dominate him for the remainder of the first round.
Chikadze never seemed to recover from giving Kattar such an early lead. Over the course of five rounds, Chikadze had his moments, but no one who saw the entire fight thought he was ever ahead of the scorecards.
Kattar maintained a ludicrous amount of pressure on Chikadze, effectively employing his jab and mastering the art of step-in elbows. Not that Chikadze hadn’t bloodied Kattar, but there was no denying who was the worse for wear when Kattar reached an unanimous conclusion. Recently, the two crossed paths against each other and embraced each other with respect in true sporting spirit like ideal athletes. The same can be witnessed in the following video:-
Kattar is one of the top featherweight boxers, having recently defeated highly touted striker Giga Chikadze. The previous fight ended in a decision loss to Max Holloway, the UFC Featherweight Champion. Both Jeremy Stephens and Ricardo Lamas have been knocked out by Kattar. Kattar has only been defeated once, in 2008, by a rear-naked choke from James Jones.
Emmett, on the other hand, hasn’t been as busy, but in his last six fights, he’s knocked out Michael Johnson, Mirsad Bektic, and Lamas. Emmett’s most recent loss was a knockout loss against Stephens in 2017, which was also his lone career loss. It will undoubtedly be an intriguing matchup and a sporting spectacle.
