“It was not an easy decision,” Shane Burgos, former UFC featherweight and free agent signs with PFL MMA

Shane Burgos has finally found a new house to keep the party going, and the address might not surprise you. Burgos, a longtime UFC featherweight has fought the likes of Edson Barboza, Josh Emmett, and Calvin Kattar and won over the likes of Makwan Amirkhani, Charles Jourdain, Cub Swanson, Billy Quarantillo and many more. Burgos was #14 ranked featherweight before leaving the UFC.

Shane Burgos started his MMA career first as an amateur making his debut in 2010. After a record of 6-0, Burgos went on to have a 7-0 record before signing with the UFC and eventually made his big stage debut at UFC Fight Night 102: Lewis vs Abdurakhimov. Burgos is 15-3 in his overall MMA career with 10 wins via finishes. His fight against Quarantillo at UFC 268 was one of the best clashes of the year 2021.

After the Jourdain fight in his home state of New York, Burgos’ UFC contract got over and he went on a free-agency run. Eventually, it got known today that Burgos got signed to Professional Fighters’ League (PFL), the home of the fighters like Kayla Harrison, Jeremy Stephens, Anthony Pettis, Ray Cooper III and the promotion where former Bellator MMA champion Rory MacDonald retired.

The news was first broken on PFL’s official Twitter handle with a picture of Burgos and the caption says “BREAKING: WELCOME TO THE LEAGUE @HurricaneShaneB!” As obvious, Burgos will be fighting in PFL’s featherweight division. The PFL promotion works differently from other promotions and therefore the fights rather operate on a traditional tournament system where the winner gets a million-dollar check.

On The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Burgos said I went out there, I tested the free agency market, and I’m excited to announce I’m signing with the PFL. It was not an easy decision, it was just an offer I couldn’t turn down. I got two daughters, I gotta go home and look them in the face and say it’s worth it when all is said and done in this sport...

With this deal, I feel that will secure that. But not taking anything away from my UFC career. Man, eleven fights in the UFC? That was a dream when I was fourteen years old … The UFC’s given me this opportunity, this platform, to be able to be in this position now and secure the deal that I just secured with PFL.
