“He can NEUTRALIZE his opponent,” Georges St-Pierre gives a clear-cut prognostic for UFC 280’s Islam Makhachev vs Charles Oliveira
Islam Makhachev- Georges St-Pierre- Charles Oliveira
Like many notable opinions, Georges St-Pierre has given his take on the much anticipated super fight between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira happening next month on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The fight is for the vacant UFC lightweight championship, which came to the said status due to Oliveira missing weight before going into his last fight against Justin Gaethje at UFC 274. Now, Oliveira is fighting the man who is coming out as a favourite on the betting odds.
For the fans to make Makhachev stand out as the favourite is to consider the possibility that Makhachev has the potential to do something that fighters like Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje and more notable dangerous names of the most dangerous division couldn’t do. Every time Oliveira has been put in the underdog status for the last few years, he has shined out differently and has not only beaten the legendary names of the 155 lbs but did so memorably.

Georges St-Pierre believes the cage side is Makhachev’s territory, and the centre belongs to Oliveira
In an interview with The Schmo, UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre talks about Khamzat Chimaev‘s missing weight at UFC 279, Nate Diaz coming out of the UFC after a glorious career, training with a grappling phenom in Gordon Ryan, passing of fellow Canadian fighter Elias Theodorou and much more. In the midst of all, St-Pierre makes the prediction of the main event of UFC 280 featuring Makhachev and Oliveira.
“My prognostic for the fight is that if the fight stays general in the centre of the Octagon, that will give the advantage to Oliveira,” says St-Pierre. “However if the fight goes mostly towards the fence, that will give the advantage to Islam Makhachev and the reason for that is I believe Makhachev can neutralize his opponents’ best ability by using the fence, you know what I mean? And Oliveira, I believe, on the other side, he needs a little more space, especially you know, to move his hips and to be able to strike and do some of his favourite submissions…” continued St-Pierre.
What do you make of St-Pierre’s take on Oliveira vs Makhachev at UFC 280? Who do you think wins? Makhachev is a Russian wrestler whose top control and pressure over his opponents are mercilessly painful for them to fight through. Oliveira’s slick grappling game by the courtesy of BJJ is as notorious as it comes for his competitors. However, over the years, while both are complete MMA fighters, Oliveira has shown some exponential growth as a striker which whether Makhachev will be able to cope with or not is quite uncertain.
