Georges St-Pierre is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters in mixed martial arts history. St-Pierre was a UFC two-division champion with titles in the welterweight and middleweight divisions.

GSP described how the promotion in the early days lacked structure and discipline. “They looked like freaking bums,” he said. Fighters would show up at promotional events and press conferences underdressed. This made the sport look like it lacked professionalism and didn’t give the fighters the respect they deserved.

“So I started wearing suits people make fun of me in the beginning… I take care of the image you know it’s important,” he said. “I helped change that part of the game and I also helped change for the performance enhancement…enhancement testing and I’m glad I did it.”

Pierre has an impressive professional record of 26 wins and 2 losses. Although retired, he did come back in 2017 to deliver a third-round submission win against Michael Bisping at UFC 217. In the podcast, St-Pierre also discusses the secrets of the Khabib fight and the real reason he retired from the UFC.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Georges St-Pierre were two of the elite UFC fighters in the promotion. Khabib Nurmagomedov has had a spotless career in the UFC. With a professional record of 29 wins and 0 losses, Khabib officially retired from the UFC in 2021. When Khabib retired, he was still the reigning UFC champion in his weight class. His last fight was against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. Khabib won that fight in the second round via submission.

Many believe that Georges St-Pierre was one of the few who could’ve defeated Khabib Nurmagomedov. St-Pierre was actually ready to face Nurmagomedov and had agreed to fight him at 165 lbs. He was still in his retirement but later revealed that the Khabib fight would’ve been the only one to bring him out of retirement. St-Pierre later reveals that he was actually expecting a callout from the Dagestani at UFC 254 after defeating Gaethje. But instead, Khabib announced his retirement from MMA after that win.
