ESPN recently went on Instagram to showcase George St-Pierre and his fitness level. He successfully landed a front flip followed by two back flips. At the age of 42, the former two-division champion of UFC remains as athletic as ever. St-Pierre is arguably one of the best fighters to grace the MMA community, particularly in the UFC. He is widely known through his initials, GSP.
St-Pierre efficiently performed the acrobatics moves in what looked like a daily fitness routine. He had incredible agility during his prime. The video posted by ESPN went on to surprise many fans. They exclaimed that GSP could be in better shape than most active fighters on the roster. St-Pierre reigned over the welterweight division during his time in the UFC. He faced tough opponents such as Matt Hughes, Nick Diaz, and Jake Shields, who are incredible fighters in their own rights. GSP might be among the few fighters who remain keen on maintaining physical fitness after retirement.
St-Pierre was dangerous on all levels of fighting as an MMA fighter. His fight IQ was second to none in his weight class. St-Pierre had aimed to represent Canada in the Olympics wrestling too. This ambition of his was not possible due to his commitments to the UFC.
Later, he suffered from several injuries and health problems, and his career was no longer the same. He vacated his middleweight throne in 2017 and also declined Khabib Nurmagomedov’s callouts to compete in the lightweight division. St-Pierre officially laid down his fighting gloves in 2019. GSP was inducted into the Modern wing of the UFC Hall of Fame in 2021. As of now, St-Pierre is set to make a comeback at the UFC Fight Pass event in December this year for a submission grappling contest.
Georges St-Pierre fights for the UFC once more
After a long gap from professional fighting, Georges St-Pierre is returning to active competition. The announcement was made during the UFC 290 event. St-Pierre will fight under the UFC Fight Pass Invitational banner. The UFC Fight Pass Invitational is a branch of the main UFC company. The platform hosts multiple bouts for fighters of different styles. St-Pierre will be competing in a submission grappling sentence.
St-Pierre enjoyed a dominating career in the welterweight and middleweight divisions in the UFC. Considered by many to be the best in the game, he retired at the age of 37. The Canadian has done it all and remains well-respected by his peers. Now having reached 42 years, he is on the verge of making a dramatic comeback.
The fans will see him in action on the 14th of December, later this year. He will fight Demian Maia in his combat sports return. For St-Pierre, grappling Khabib Nurmagomedov seems ideal for the event but it failed to materialize.
