The top ten welterweights On social media, Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal are attempting to play matchmaker by putting up a fight against each other. Gilbert Burns has been a prolific user of social media, especially since his recent victory over Stephen Thompson at UFC 264.

Burns then eventually lost to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273 and is now back on the call-out path. Last month, Burns came to Twitter and uploaded the image, Burns posted a photo of himself and Masvidal beside a grand sum of four pairs of eye emojis. Below is the said Tweet,

Masvidal reacted to the Tweet, showing interest in it, stating “Sounds good to me. Let’s see”

On social media, Burns has already taken over as a UFC matchmaker, calling out Masvidal and receiving a good response from ‘Gamebred.’ He now believes that all he has to do is wait for a date from his UFC employers. 

Burns remarked in an interview with MMA Underground, where he stated, “I want a big fight. I want to fight Masvidal, I think that’s the fight that they gonna make it. Like I said, I have tremendous respect for Jorge, guy’s got over 50 fights, crazy knockouts, fought in the streets.”

He added, “That’s the fight I want, I still believe we’re going to put on a show and I can beat the s*** out of him … If something happen and Masvidal can’t make it I’m not going to say no to a fight, you know? Like I said, I want a big fight. I want Colby or Masvidal, but if those guys not available … sometimes I might give an opportunity for these guys if they have nothing lined up by then.”

Jorge Masvidal accepted the fight via Twitter, and in a recent interview with The MMA Hour, he reaffirmed his desire to fight Gilbert Burns. Given his current legal predicament, the main question is whether he’ll be able to fight in the fall. While Jorge is scheduled to appear in court at the end of August to defend himself against a felony violence accusation that may land him in jail.

As Gilbert Burns is still recovering from an injury incurred in his battle against Khamzat Chimaev, he has repeatedly begged for a fight in the fall. A fight between them would play out perfectly if the events occur in the manner as expected.
