Gilbert Burns fought at UFC 288 in a losing effort to Belal Muhammad. The Brazilian fighter injured his shoulder in the bout and lost the bout via unanimous decision. An edited video of Gilbert Burns warming up alongside Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has gone viral on social media. Some fans thought it was real and hilariously got upset at Burns.

Ever since moving to the welterweight division, Burns has only lost to the division’s top fighters. He lost to Kamaru Usman at UFC 258 in a title bout. Khamzat Chimaev defeated him at UFC 273 via a unanimous decision. Belal capitalized on an injured shoulder recently and comfortably defeated Burns in the New Jersey PPV. Despite the losses to top contenders, Burns remains unstoppable in the welterweight division.

Currently, he remains in recovery from a terrible shoulder injury. He updated fans about his condition but will likely remain out of competition until next year. He will likely face a rising contender like Ian Garry or Joaquin Buckley when he returns. The state of the welterweight division remains exciting due to the number of prospects in the division. Shavkat Rakhmonov and Kelvin Gastelum will fight at some point this year, and the bout will have title implications.

In the meantime, Gilbert remains in recovery, enjoying social media edits featuring Angelina Jolie. The edit synced really well, and Burns even reacted to it on Twitter. Some of the fans reminded him that he had a wife and children. When Burns does return, fans will happily welcome him back to the UFC.

The shoulder injury remains a concern for Burns at the moment. He will likely sit out this year for recovery and return next year to push once again for title contention. Only time will tell if Burns returns to form when he returns to the UFC.
