After losing an all-out war against Khamzat Chimaev, Gilbert Burns was looking for an opponent for his next bout. Durinho wanted to fight the UFC star Jorge Masvidal. However, the BMF champion had his eye on fighting Conor McGregor. Although it seems like we will finally get to see the Welterweight showdown between the two.

In a recent interview, Durinho revealed that a fight between him and Gamebred has been agreed upon and will likely take place soon. While Durinho wanted to fight Masvidal for his next fight. Gamebred initially showed interest in the fight, but his top priority was to fight the UFC megastar, Conor McGregor.

However, with no signs of McGregor returning to the octagon soon. It seems like we will finally get to witness the fight between the two Welterweights. Durinho is 1-2 in his last three outings, after losing to Kamaru Usman in a title matchup which broke his 6-fight win streak. Burns bounced back with a win against UFC vet Stephen Thompson.

He again faced defeat in his next bout against up-and-comer Khamzat Chimaev. On the other hand, Masvidal has lost three of his last three bouts. Two of his last three bouts were against the champion Usman for the Welterweight crown. His recent loss was at the hands of former title challenger and his former friend Colby Covington.

In a recent interview with Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie, Durinho talked about the upcoming Welterweight title clash between Usman and Edwards at UFC 278 this weekend, and his prediction on the fight, he also revealed that a bout with Masvidal is in the works for year-end.

When asked about his next bout, Burns stated, “Nothing done yet – a lot of talks about the fight with Masvidal – he verbally agreed. Me too, They’re just figuring out the date. No date yet. November was too close, so December or January. At least I know I have an opponent. Just figuring out the date right now.”

When asked about the possibility of fighting in Brazil as there is a UFC 283 card in Brazil at the beginning of the next year. Durinho replied that he’s flexible when it comes to a date and location to fight Masvidal. “No. 1 would be MSG in November, but then he said no for that date, Now December or January, I can wait like 20 more days to go to Brazil. I’m looking forward to go to the Brazil card.”

Burns further had some kind words for Masvidal and stated that he is excited to fight him. Durinho also isn’t overlooking Gamebred as an easy opponent. He stated, “Even though he’s coming from losses, it’s just from Kamaru and Colby it’s not like, ‘Oh, he’s been destroyed,’ He lost to two of the best guys in the division, so I don’t look down on him. It’s going to be a good fight. Entertaining, both guys coming from a loss, and I want to take his head off.”
